Exceptional Needs
What is the Exceptional Needs Department?
The Exceptional Needs department excels in the development and progression of students that face difficulties in their relationship with school. Also referred to as emotional based non-attendance. Furthermore, students within the department, needs are diverse: Be it Students with an ASD diagnosis, ADHD, Anxiety and Depression or experiencing emotive difficulties. Within the EV environment, strong relationships are formulated with Key Adults that explore their difficulties to create robust practical strategies they may use in the different facets of their life. Each of these strategies are developed with therapeutic intent: Whatever makes the student feel good and to navigate the often-complex experiences they inhabit. This bespoke approach aims to build consistency, self-regulation, and unequivocal resilience. We are not quixotic and understand that each student is unique. The therapies listed are not exhaustive, as we attempt different types of therapy dependent on the needs of the student:
Sensory Therapy
Play Therapy
Internal Dynamics Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural and Discourse Therapy
Social and Dialectical Therapy
Within EV rooms, regulation is considered with students behaviour modelled by their Nurture Lead so that it may be use in later life; be it in social situations, Day to day activities or in times when routine is changed.
We do not expect perfection, instead aiming to develop students with steady progression.
Each of these therapies aim to be holistic with a focus on self-regulation.
