Welcome message from the Headteacher

Dear visitor,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you, as Headteacher, to Egerton High School. With many years’ experience in educational leadership and management, I was delighted to accept the post of Headteacher in 2018 and since then to be able to lead staff, governors and the school community in creating many positive changes.

Working with colleagues at our School, we have introduced extensive improvement plans, with a number of exciting developments now in place. We have transformed our School environment into 3 zones: our Nurture Main Offer for students in Years 8 – 11, our Year 7 Nurture Area, called ‘The Hive’, and our Individualised Learning provision, named ‘The Area’. Many areas of the School, including our entrance hall, have been updated and redecorated, and this programme is planned to continue across the School. You will notice that we structure all learning around the 6 principles of Nurture – details of which you find on our website. We hope you will see the changes when you come to visit us at one of our forthcoming open events, which we hold three times each academic year.

Obviously the changes we have made have gathered a lot of interest, and the School is now over-subscribed. As a result, this year our school is expanding with a further 6 classrooms being added, including a specialist Mindfulness Therapy Suite, and a Learning Bus. Our approach was also recently featured in The Parliamentary Review – a copy of which is available on our website. The attitude and approach to learning of our young people is exemplary, with students consistently displaying our core values of love, compassion, honesty, team work, trust, resilience and responsibility both in the classroom and around school. In 2018 we welcomed our first ever cohort of Year 7 students, now in Year 8, who continue to make fabulous progress.

We have many goals and ambitions for our school and all students, too many to detail here! To name a few, however, we have introduced new behaviour and discipline procedures, a new vocational taster curriculum, a theme-based approach to lessons, the Duke of Edinburgh award, and a number of supportive therapeutic approaches in Sport, Art, Yoga, Lego and Cognitive Behaviour discussions. As a result of our recent developments, it is now usual for students to leave school with 7 GCSE or equivalent qualifications by the end of their time with us. We are particularly excited with the development of new peer to peer approaches, including the development of our student leadership team. In order to facilitate these developments, we have taken on many more staff, and have now employed a number of our existing staff in brand new roles. Perhaps the most exciting appointment has been Toby, our School dog, who you can read about on the website.

Both myself and the staff look forward to meeting you, should you decide to visit us; alternatively, please feel free to contact the school should you need to speak with us about anything at all.

Kind Regards,

JP Madden,

Headteacher
